Taraba State government has urged parents, community leaders, traditional institutions, youth groups and members of the public to intensify efforts to prevent human trafficking and protect vulnerable persons from exploitation.
The call was made on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs. Mary Sinjen, during the reunification of Jethro Kasimu, an indigene of the state who was reportedly trafficked to Benin City, Edo State, and separated from his family.
The ministry commended Governor Agbu Kefas and his wife, Mrs. Agyin Agbu Kefas, for their continued support for programmes aimed at protecting vulnerable individuals and combating human trafficking across the state.
It also acknowledged the contributions of relevant agencies and individuals whose collaboration facilitated Kasimu’s return and reunification with his family.
Sinjen urged residents to remain vigilant and exercise caution over suspicious movements, fraudulent employment offers and other activities that could expose children and vulnerable persons to trafficking and exploitation.
She stressed the importance of collective responsibility, sustained public awareness and the prompt reporting of suspected trafficking cases to relevant authorities.
The ministry advised members of the public to report suspected cases to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, or the nearest security agency.
